New curriculum published online

The new, redesigned primary curriculum, which will become statutory from 2011, has been published online.

The new website, which includes all of the final programmes of learning along with practical advice and guidance, sets out to give teachers all the information they need to start planning ahead for the new curriculum.

It features a short guide to the new curriculum; a tool to help teachers produce medium-term plans; an improved ‘compare’ function that allows you to view areas of learning side by side; and new case studies that show how schools have used their curriculum to make real improvements.

The new curriculum is based around six areas of learning: Understanding the arts; Understanding English, communication and languages; Historical, geographical and social understanding; Mathematical understanding; Understanding physical development, health and wellbeing, and Scientific and technological understanding.
