Forum Topic: Grandma's Cottage

After weeks of searching for boxes, we made a start today. This instructions seem harder than Rapunzels one. I think the boxes made it difficult as it was clear what the crisps tube was.

We also had a problem with the laying on of the mod-roc. It seemed to cover up the clay rolls (think the children went mod-roc mad and really enjoyed applying it)

But at the moment they are sitting infront of our heaters waiting to dry before we paint them.

Has anyone else started this one?

We have started and found small shoe boxes ideal, as they are robust enough to withstand the modroc application. Have adapted loads of the ideas and we are really getting somewhere with the cottages now. (Making 29!!) small scouring sponges make ideal beds and I have adapted the way to cut out the windows so that the children can do it. Basically, we are making cottages with a ‘lift off’ lid- so the children can play with them by taking off the roof, but compromising the opening front door. The modroc has covered about 5 shoe boxes so we have needed to order more- but the children just loved the whole ‘messiness’ of applying it. We should have cottages ready in a week or two and it is worth all the angst and mess just to see the delight in their eyes!!

OH – and we are going to stick on the tudor beams after the modroc has been applied and painted- using lolly sticks, painted brown. Not sure the clay was needed to get this effect!!
