Phoebe Doyle talks to the CEO of 20 London nurseries who believes that meal times should be a priority rather than an intrusion on our timetables

Child with watermelon

The early years environment is pretty action packed – carpet work, free play, singing, story time, outside play, tabletop activities. Unsurprisingly then, snack and mealtimes can be viewed as somewhat of an annoyance. Indeed, many settings resort to sending children outside to play with their snack or even give them out on the way home. For settings that offer lunch and tea, these too are often not given the thought and care they deserve.
