Who was St Andrew?
Knowledge and understanding of the world

St Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland, was Jesus’ first apostle. Two bible stories to tell your class are the ‘fishers of men’ story and the story of the ‘feeding of the five thousand’. In the first story Jesus joins Andrew and his brother Simon Peter on their fishing boat on the Sea of Galilee. Despite having caught no fish earlier in the day, Jesus encouraged them to try again and immediately the nets were filled with fish. The miraculous catch terrified the brothers but Jesus said “Come with me and I will make you fishers of men”. Role play sailing out on the lake of Galilee and heaving in the nets, heavy with fish, as you tell the story.
