School days

Most people retain vivid memories of their schooldays and, because of the abundance of eyewitness accounts available, comparisons can easily be made between education in the years after 1948 and the present day.

While younger children can look for the similarities and differences in school life during two different decades between 1948 and the present day, older children should be encouraged to use sources of information more critically. Show them, for example, how to differentiate between fact and opinion, and get them to think about why certain changes have taken place.
