To get the 2008 National Year of Reading underway, share the wonderful story of Blanche and Rocky, by Stephen Gulbis, with the children and enjoy these fun activity ideas together
The Nursery Ed team understand how important it is for children to adopt a love of books from an early age, which is why we are supporting the 2008 National Year of Reading!
To help inspire you to get involved in the campaign, a different reading theme has been recommended for each month. So, starting from this issue, we will suggest a story book and activity ideas relating to the theme for you to share and enjoy with the children.
The first theme – ‘Read all about it’ – launches in April. With this in mind, we have chosen the story book Blanche and Rocky by Stephen Gulbis (Hodder Children’s Books), and provided some fantastic activities based on this charming story.
Over the next eight months, you will be able to find more invaluable activities relating to the 2008 National Year of Reading monthly themes on our website
We hope you enjoy these wonderful resources – don’t forget to check our website each month for the next theme, story book and related activities!
What is it all about?
The 2008 National Year of Reading is a campaign led by The National Literacy Trust and The Reading Agency on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
Launched by Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls, the 2008 National Year of Reading aims to build a greater passion for reading among children, families and adults alike. It is hoped that through its numerous campaigns and activities throughout the year, the 2008 National Year of Reading will encourage and promote reading across schools, businesses and communities.
