Learn about adding prefixes and suffixes to words through the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’

Learning objectives

To extend vocabulary and to understand that words can be changed by adding prefixes and suffixes; to use a story as a basis for independent writing.

You will need

Card; pens; flipchart or whiteboard; picture of a broad bean seed; large drawing of a bean plant as a basis for a display; copy of Jack and the Beanstalk ; Ages 4-5: large speech bubbles cut from paper; Ages 5-6: A4 paper, drawing materials; Ages 6-7: plain word cards; child scissors.
