What is Modern Art?

The answer to this questions is open to interpretation. A simple explanation would be ‘Modern Art is a way of showing feelings and emotions, often in an unusual way, sometimes using unusual materials’.

Try introducing the work of Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte and Francis Bacon to start with – they should grab children’s attention!

Make a ‘My Life’ collage

This is a great way for children to express themselves. It’s also a good way to show that Modern Art can create a piece of work that is not only decorative but also carries a message.
