The magic of a snowfall

The Snowman - Raymond Briggs

In The Snowman, a little boy wakes in his bedroom and immediately senses something has changed. Ask children whether they have experienced this enchanting moment when snow has fallen in the night.

Engage children in identifying and verbalising the reasons for this. For example, often, there is a unique brightness about the light from the window, and outside sounds seem different. In quiet areas, sounds may be muffled as people walk on snow covered paths, in towns, there may be the noise of people clearing their drives, and a greater clarity in the voices of people passing by.
