You will need: ‘Invisible Magicians’ by Paul Cookson from The Works 6 – every kind of poem you’ll ever need for assembly chosen by Pie Corbett (Macmillan, PB £6.99); PowerPoint to make a slideshow of related images; music such as ‘Rain Rain Beautiful Rain’ from The very best of Ladysmith Black Mambazo (Wrasse Records), or if you are in a classical mood use ‘Look at the world’ from John Rutter’s Mass Of The Children (Collegium Records); song/ hymn, such as ‘He’s got the whole world in his hand’ or ‘All things bright and beautiful’ both from The Works 6; special words/ prayer (see Online activity sheet 2, ‘Prayer for our place’ or ‘Prayer’ by Roger Stevens from The Works 6.

Performing poetry

The poem ‘Invisible Magicians’ is ideal for a class choral performance and is simple enough to learn over about a week.
