Summer is nearly upon us. Welcome its start by celebrating May Day!
Bringing in the May
The Romans used to celebrate the festival of Flora, the goddess of flowers, and started the tradition of ‘bringing in the May’. This was where young people would go out early in the morning and collect flowers to decorate their homes. For centuries, the highlight of the day was the crowning of the Queen of the May, followed by dancing, archery contests and exhibitions of strength.
