Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Designing and Making

Development matters: are curious and interested in making things happen (22-36 months); use simple tools and techniques competently and appropriately (40-60+ months).

Early learning goal: select the tools and techniques they need to shape, assemble and join materials they are using.

What you need

Group size: four children.

‘Moveable teddy’ activity sheet; child scissors; felt-tipped pens; crayons; paper fasteners; hole-punch.

What to do

Before carrying out this activity, create your own moveable teddy from the activity sheet to show to the children.

Invite the children to look closely at the teddy that you have made, and explain that they are going to make their own moveable teddy with arms and legs that will swing.
