Celebrate this Jewish festival in your setting with these glowing activities.
A marvellous menorah
A menorah is a special candlestick that has nine candles. Eight candles are for the eight days of Hanukkah, and the ninth candle is used to light the others. Every evening, during Hanukkah, one of the candles is lit. After eight days, all eight candles are burning. Show the children pictures of a menorah. If possible, and with all safety aspects considered, light a menorah or candle for the children to view at a sensible distance. Invite them to create a bold picture of a menorah with all the candles burning. Provide shiny foil, pearl paints, glitter and Cellophane for the children to create a mixed media image illustrating candlelight that glows.
