The theme of ‘Toys’ and the great outdoors are a winning combination as these fun activities show

Decide with the children where would be a good place to park the wheeled toys at the beginning and end of the session. Using chalk, draw a rectangular shape to define a space for each vehicle, and write a large number in each space. Talk out loud as you draw, for example, ‘Number 1 has a long straight line; number 2 has curves around the top and has a straight line at the bottom’ and so on. Encourage the children to draw the numbers on to circles of laminated card using a waterproof marker. Punch a hole in the circles and attach them with string to the wheeled toy in the space with the same number. Check with the children at the beginning and end of the session to ensure that the toys are in their correct space.
