Teachers’ notes: Talk about the work entitled Orchard Tambourine by British artist Terry Frost at www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/frost_terry.html

Discuss his use of colour and the way that some circles seem to ‘jump out’ and others retreat to the background. Explain the reasons for this and encourage the children to use this page to experiment with the effects of one colour placed in close proximity to another. The children can then go on to make a pattern or an abstract colouring.
